Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros

Happy & Gay!

The movie is almost a 10 year old film but yet it is my first time to watch it. I can say that the actors were doing good, well obviously these actors were award winning from different films they had in the past. The film shows representation of gender in which the story revolves between a gay teen that lives in a slum area in Manila together with “his” father and two brothers who were very much known for their illegal way of living and was later investigated by a young handsome police officer that made the gay teenager to fall in love with.

Maybe I would say that films like this talking about gender are not very common maybe in some countries. If we define gender it simply explains the preference of an individual, now in the film I can see the main character wearing vibrant clips or hair band in his hair, bangles on his wrists and even wearing lipstick, these are the common characteristics made Maxi (Nathan Lopez) behave like a true girl. However, his gender was fully accepted by his two brothers and his father. In a way of showing their support to him (Maxi) they protect him when there are times their neighbors and people teased him. One night Maxi was walking home alone, upon walking two men block his way and attempt to molest him but suddenly here comes the handsome young cop name Victor ( JR Valentin) newly assigned in their place saves the night. After that incident Victor and Maxi were became good friends, during Maxi’s free time he always goes to Victor’s place and brings some stuff such as food for Victor. As time goes by Victor made to investigate the illegal livelihood of Maxi’s family which resulted to a bloody evening when Maxi’s father and brother bogs teaching the young handsome cop a lesson. Due to Maxi’s love for Victor, Maxi came to help the handsome cop by cleaning his wounds and cooking food for breakfast.

The film doesn’t quite really show the typical “love story” that we’ve seen from other films but a story of love in which it involves family and friends. If you watch the film it would touches your heart and made you feel and understand the drama in the life of Maxi. When the time when Victor’s boss killed Maxi’s father for some reasons not just for their illegal way of living but also happenings from the past it pushes Maxi to move on and move away from Victor.

If I rate this film I would give 9 out of 10 because it talks about what is really the reality. The reality in which after the storm we need to move on and that’s what Maxi’s doing in the end. The last scene of the film which shows Maxi wearing his white Polo shirt and black shoes represents new life and new beginnings.
